Magnesium – Why You Will Die Without Magnesium

Magnesium – That is today’s topic and I am excited to share about how it has made a difference in my life and why it is SO important to everyone’s health and well being.

Magnesium is one of the most abundant minerals in our body – over 50% of magnesium is found in our bones.

WOW! My doctor has never told me to increase or supplement my magnesium intake to strengthen my bones.

I met a lady that started taking extra magnesium because of her own research and her struggle with osteoporosis and when she had her next yearly bone density test, it had dramatically improved.  The next year she stopped taking the magnesium and her next exam was bad again.  Her doctor was concerned about her calcium intake but she knew that the only thing she had done differently was her lack of magnesium.  She was more than convinced to take magnesium on a daily basis from here on out.

Here are just a couple of the signs of not getting enough magnesium:

  • Heart arrhythmia, irregular contraction, and high heart rate.
  • Insomnia
  • Muscle weakness, spasms and tremors. (& growing pains/charlie horses)
  • Softening and weakening of bone (osteoporosis, strange bone breakage, teeth breaking/crumbling)
  • Seizures
  • Nausea
  • High blood pressure
  • Headaches / Migraines
  • Imbalanced blood sugar
  • Depression
  • Constipation

Remember that magnesium relaxes and calms your mind and body.  If you look at that list, those symptoms are not from a calm and relaxed body.

There are several ways to supplement with magnesium.  You can take in in pill form, powdered magnesium (dissolved in water) or magnesium oil (rubbed on the skin or foot baths).

So what are some things that deplete our bodies of magnesium?

Magnesium deficiency can be caused by a number of things, including-but not limited to-

  • lack of adequate dietary magnesium,
  • emotional stress,
  • some drugs (diuretics, antibiotics, birth control pills, insulin, cortisone),
  • heavy exercise,
  • diabetes,
  • gastrointestinal disorders and
  • excessive calcium in the diet.  –Peter Gillham

Having too much calcium can cause a magnesium deficiency.

    Very informative article. Most people don’t seem to be at all aware of magnesium’s importance. Calcium is absorbed much more efficiently by the body when magnesium is also present in good quantity. So without enough magnesium, one can also suffer from symptoms of calcium deficiency, in addition to the symptoms of magnesium shortage listed above.
